The Act on Promotion of Earthquake-Resistant Renovation of Buildings (Earthquake-Resistant Renovation Promotion Act) was enacted, and earthquake-resistance inspections of existing buildings are being carried out nationwide.
If the diagnosis reveals a problem, the building’s earthquake resistance will need to be increased to meet the standards of current law, by reinforcing pillars and beams and adding earthquake-resistant walls.
This applies to buildings built before May 31, 1981.
